Doors and corners Holden, doors and corners.

First off I’m pleased I practiced, technically I was procrastinating away from another extra curricular I am trying but if I just vacillate between the 2 or 3 things regularly then I think thats probably alright. The one that made it to Procreate is number 10, I felt like it had potential but was a bit long in the nose which is hard to fix on paper at the stage I was at but easier to experiment with in digital form. Once I pulled it in I had to add some lines as well and am pretty happy with it although looking at it above now that big heavy hair on the left is driving me mildly insane but it is what it is.
I started this with a tutorial from Ahmed Aldoori, I like his slightly surfer dude voice and love his style, he is unabashed about what he likes to do and I like that.
This is the video that started me off, everything is very cute and generally pleasant to look at which works for me. From there I I ended up on this Schoolism tutorial here.
This I liked because it was very economical and introduced me to using the cranium (a circle) and the nose (a pyramid) to anchor everything else on the face. The narrator is a story board artist and so is interested in delivering expressive characters quickly which appealed to me as it was a short video (good for my attention span) and devoid of a lot of fluff. This was the point that I started to draw.
While sketch 1 felt a bit janky sketch 2 found its feet a lot better by using the circle/pyramid method along with the guide lines I’m more practiced with. Sketch 10 however was most interesting as I remembered the idea of creating a ‘mask’ for the face from a video I’d seen a while back. Taking the an upside down (is a triangle ever upside down? does it need to always point to the sky?) slightly elongated equilateral (so not that equal) triangle to contain the features.
I want to experiment with that more next but right now I feel like I did something and that feels good.
The image I am yet to do justice too is here, the Pinterest embed didn’t seem to work OR I don’t know how embedding works.
